Grilling continues throughout the year

Grilling doesn't stop in summer - enjoy grilling in winter too

Grilling is a year-round event. Charcoal and kamado grills are particularly suitable for year-round use, but gas grills can also be used to cook in winter.

Start at

Clean the grill well from snow before use. A protective cover over the grill makes cleaning easier. Always remove the protective cover carefully. Although the Mustang’s grill covers can withstand temperatures as low as -20°C, they are stiff in the cold and can tear if handled roughly. Remember to also clean snow around the grill to make it easier and more comfortable to work next to.

When using the Kamado grill, open the grill lid carefully to avoid tearing any seals that may have frozen together. Tip! Place a thin piece of wood between the lid and the base of the kamado. This will prevent the seals from freezing together. When using a kamado grill, first put a few pieces of charcoal in the grill and light them. A small flame will remove any moisture from the structure of the grill before the actual grilling with a larger amount of charcoal. This reduces the risk of cracks in the ceramic parts.

Then grill

When grilling in winter, allow for a longer than normal preheating time. The grill is ready for use when the grill thermometer reads above 200°C, preferably close to 250°C. The Kamado grill should be heated to a temperature higher than the desired grilling temperature and then allowed to cool to the desired temperature. This way, the heat is transferred to the ceramic body of the grill and the temperature remains constant throughout the grilling process.

A gas grill is also ideal for winter grilling. However, please note that gas does not vaporise in the same way as in summer. A few degrees of frost will not affect the vaporisation of the gas, but at more than freezing temperatures, the gas in the cylinder will find it more difficult to vaporise.

Do not bring grilled meat and vegetables to the grill until it is ready to use, so that the ingredients do not cool unnecessarily. In winter, always grill with the lid closed. This will help keep the heat inside the grill. On dark winter nights, you can see what’s going on better by attaching a Mustang grill light to the grill lid handle.

Finishing touches

Always clean the grill after use, and then protect the grill with a protective cover to make it easier to use the next time. Note! Always place the protective cover over the grill when it has cooled down.
